Update 1/17/18

The colony reached 13 workers, and then their tube fell over and crushed two of them. I'm almost sure one is dead, and the other one is alive but can't walk. This basically means they hatched two more workers, and two died, putting us back at 11. :(

We've got 20 workers and new brood. Looks like they'll be running out of pupae soon.

Nice colony. I want to keep Camponotus pennsylvanicus, but my parents won't let me.

Really? And you've tried all of our suggestions from that post?

They say I have to prove I'm "responsible".  I'm not sure how, though.

You should ask them how. Only they know.

Good luck! Surely it shouldn't be as hard catching one up north. I'm looking for a more colorful Camponotus this summer.

There are a bunch of camponotus colonies I have observed in a park accross the street from my house. I shouldn't have trouble finding queens when they have there nuptial flights.

No idea. I didn't catch this queen.

The queen was caught in wood anyways.

They fly early morning, but it's hard to find them then, they hide too fast. But, they are all out an about looking for a nesting site at night, so nighttime is your best bet.

Ok thanks. So after a rain storm in April-July look in early morning and at night?

Try blacklighting at night, and checking in wood/looking for wanderers during the day.
