I see a potential issue, the fact that you can write whatever you want as a species. I suggest a pre-selected species list.

Thank Kevin, good idea! I considered this problem about spam's in the information, but where to get the list with all species of ants So i temporarily settled on the manual control of data, in the near future I'm going to do checking for the species field
I feel like it would be more succsessful if you had a little cookie that tells you some ant keepers who are nearby/local.

Antmaps.org is a good source. I'm sure there are big lists somewhere. You could ask drew for a list from his mating chart, but I don't think that has every species.

Just added some species to the list.

Can try to ask antmaps.org to give list all ants in the database antmaps, good idea
Just added some species to the list.
First markers on the American continent
Adding some species now
I also think this can slightly be ineffective unless exact locations are shown. You should make a app for members to easily mark a location in-field. That would bring this to a more useful level, but it would need time to grow.

I agree

I must say, this has some mega potential if you are able to get it out there.

It is not possible I wanted to realize it, and started doing this function, but geolocation on the phones is very inaccurate. +- 5m, and this is the best. If phones would have antenna, it would be possible doing it
just added more

Is it ok to only write the genus if unsure of the species? For Example Formica sp., or the species group like Formica fusca-group sp.

Yes, it is ok, but it is better to write cf. in the species if you have assume. For example lasius cf. claviger. If haven't assume, can write sp
Would be nice to be able to search the location so I can easily find the place that I want to place the marker.
You can open the antmaps.org website html and take all the genus, and let people decide the sp. (they can write Lasius niger, Lasius cf. niger, Lasius sp.) just hope that no one will place things like "Lasius lol idk" or "Lasius is this an ant?". You could fix it placing a report button on the tags so you can remove it if the name is inappropriate.
Owner of:
Atta sexdens
Camponotus rufipes
Camponotus cf. puntulactus
Pachycondyla striata
Solenopsis saevissima

I'm already thinking how to implement it, about cf. sp. Good idea about report button! Thanks, too will think how to implement it
