This Saturday my family went for a trip to New York City to go to the Natural History Museum (I'm excited for the insect display coming 2020!). On the way, we stopped by a starbucks. When I went to use the bathroom, I saw a female cockroach nibbling on a bread crumb. Suddenly, a male fluttered out of nowhere and perched by the female. The female shuffled a bit to the side, and the male started to dance. He raised his wings, and I thought that he was going to fly away. Instead, he raised and lowered them repeatedly, and looked at the female hopefully. The female just resumed eating the bread crumb. The male then decided to make his move. Sadly for him, the female bolted as soon as he touched her leg. RIP his love life.
I have to say, the mating dance was amazing even for a classic sewer/starbucks bathroom Periplaneta roach.
