but at the same time also not going to talk bad about any vendor since they are not here to defend themselves.

They are all welcome here. Some just choose not to be.

Didn't "that guy" remove his posts from the Yuku forums?

And I have heard a lot of recent complaints from a lot of different people on THA. There really isn't a good place to buy from. I recently bought from this new antzforall site. They where actually quite nice but UK based and all, it's inconvenient. Ant-Topia was nice, but the site's been down for months. Too bad, since it was my favorite. I was quite depressed. Why can't there be a NICE place. We will pay!

For sure. There is a huge opportunity here.

As an ant keeper, I would like:

* quality and reliable low maintenance formicariums at a reasonable price

* compact, stackable, easily stored, portable

* ships immediately, quickly

* strong customer service and post sales support

* and most importantly, formicariums that specifically cater to varying species of ants

As a GAN farmer, I get buyers that always ask if this brand or that brand will work. The problem is that many of the newer vendors who are making these formicariums have very little experience in rearing the many species of ants out there. They are great at designing and building. Their formicariums are pretty, their website is fancy, everything looks photogenic and nice - but many of them are just not practical. And because of this (and lack of support or customer service from vendors that do make formicariums that work), I've had to start designing and making my own.

Exactly. That's why I like Drews and buy his. I know they are going to work and are very practical.

Oh yeah, I've referred so many buyers to Drew's dirt shacks.

Ants Australia has some nice new stuff. But shipping to the U.S. would be too much.

Is this like the ant equivalent of "boxers or briefs?" Whatever it is, this thread is funny.

So this was on Facebook today, from THA:

During the past summer and fall (up until the time of this post) there have been some complications in delivering the world-class level of service intended for Tar Heel Ants customers when it began 5+ years ago. Some of the problems have been:

1. Inability to respond emails promptly

2. Longer than usual lead times (order completion times)

3. Decreased releases of video/blog productions

All of these issues began with a larger-than-usual order volume beginning in the Spring. At that time the additional help for the busy season was unavailable and unfortunately problems “snowballed” when the summer arrived. Some of the influences that affected order times (many were well over the time they normally take) were out control. The ones that can be controlled are being corrected now (see below).

The success of Tar Heel Ants depends on my ability to make the customers experience a positive one from beginning to end. Unfortunately we have failed some recently. By failing one, I personally feel we are failing everyone involved in the hobby on some level. All my efforts now are aimed at improving the customer experience!

The hobby of keeping ants can be a very satisfying one. As many of you know it is also very challenging at times. It is our goal to add support to the hobby. This support comes from well-written blog articles, videos, sharing experiences and journals of in-house colonies, and responding to questions. Sometimes that alone is a full-time effort. The intention is to improve in these areas starting today.

More changes are coming that are more directly related to operations of Tar Heel Ants. A couple of things will drastically change in the near future (and in some regards these have already begun). Some of the changes:

• Immediate Shipping Page will be stocked continuously. This page provides photos/details on formicaria available for immediate shipping (1-2 business days in most cases).

• Customer service improvements - We now have a full-time employee. The benefits of this are more time to dedicate to communication with customers and creation of information about ant keeping and our products.

• Expanded Work Areas – In the very near future we will have a second workshop available to handle the creation of more products. The hobby continues to grow! Construction has already begun and will be ready before the end of November.

• We welcome phone calls! Tar Heel Ants customer service number is 919-348-3642. This is posted on our website and is the same number printed on our first business cards years ago. We are on eastern U.S. time so please keep that in mind when calling us. Phone calls will be answered and messages will be returned as best as possible. Please understand due to the nature of this business I spend a majority of my time constructing ant habitats. I also work with several museums consulting and building ant habitats. Some days it may take longer than others to respond to emails and messages.

Please give us feedback! We need to know when things do not go as planned. Thank you in advance for your time in doing so. It helps us and in turn we intend on helping our customers by using your feedback to make improvements.

Best regards,

Mack
