I am relatively new (started early June 2017) and I was just wondering if and when my colonies grow to a size where they have alates is it good to let them fly, or could it possibly spread a disease. (please don't argue and turn this into "overhunting")  :X

I'm here to learn, mostly.

:hi:

In temperate regions your colony would lack the Natural Ques in Captivity that wild ants have to trigger nuptial flights. The worst thing that might happen is some winged ants will try to fly out of the setup, which shouldn't be a problem if you have a good secure lid on things. Also it takes Temperate ant colonies sometimes years before they are even sizeable to make alates.
