1. Location (on a map) of collection: State College, PA.  It's close to the center of PA.
2. Date of collection: 9/17/17
3. Habitat of collection: Suburban neighborhood.  Found on sidewalk.
4. Length (from head to gaster):  approximately 1cm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture:  brown???
6. Distinguishing characteristics: 

  • Gaster without a visible constriction
  • Postpetiole present (2 segments) (Myrmicinae)
  • Likely gaster without a median longitudinal depression
  • Propodeal spine
  • Gaster is not heart-shaped; the petiole appears to be attached to the front of the gaster

7. Distinguishing behavior:  None

8. Nest description: None

<-- Not an expert, but it looks suspiciously Myrmica. I caught a couple of these last week. Semi-claustral.

Agree this is Myrmica - not 100% sure on species, though.

Yep, this is a Myrmica species.
