Sorry for necromancing this thread but I think this species is Temnothorax subditivus and not any of the Nesomyrmex species based on the shape of the petiole and mesosoma.

Hit "Like This" if it helped.
Ah, 'tis the thread about those Myrmicines
The jet black ones, with lovely, brilliant sheens.
They're small, and from Yucatan, Mexico.
Beautiful ants, indeed; still unidentified, though.
And, alas, it is I.
To your various suspicions I reply, "Why?"
For, I believe the identification is not so complex.
The ants in question could very well be Nesomyrmex!
But I appreciate the confusion and on-topic banter,
After all, I'm still a relatively inexperienced, Philadelphia anter.
It would be safer to listen to Mr. Gordon Snelling,
whose expertise is widely respected and rather compelling.

I wish you luck on your ant-keeping schemes;
you've done a fine job with this colony, so it seems.
Thanks @VoidElecent, your poem really made me smile... Speaking about the ants, they indeed have a resemblance with the Nesomyrmex, but I'm not sure yet. I couldn't find a good picture of a Nesomyrmex queen in the internet to compare with my queen, but the workers have some similarity.

I needed two syllables for the meter, and "mate" is Australian.
@nurbs, you are gonna get the official Photo Embedder Medal for your positive contributions to not only this thread but others as well.
Drew should design and print a 3ft Formiculture PEM Trophy with a sculpted Dorymyrmex queen on top.

Hello guys,
I'm uploading a video from my colony.
Any idea about the ID?
Thanks.
I know I probably should create a diary to show more pics of my colony, just wanted to post few more pics (now with alates!).
I'm still not sure if they are Temnothorax sp or Monomorium or anything else.

I guess you are right! the only minor thing that I can see is the color doesn't match with the internet pictures, but I read in the wikipedia page they can be black (like mine).
