1. Location (on a map) of collection: Fort Lauderdale FL
2. Date of collection: 8-13-17
3. Habitat of collection: swimming pool
4. Length (from head to gaster): 4-5mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: reddish brown
6. Distinguishing characteristics: 
7. Distinguishing behavior: very active in tube when out of the dark
8. Nest description: none

 

I caught this ant along with a bunch of Pheidole megacephala last month.  I wasn't sure this was a queen or not so I didn't ask for an ID yet.  But now it looks like this ants eggs are developing.  This one is much smaller than my Pheidole megacephala and, as can be seen, never dropped its wings.

I think your queen is Brachymyrmex paagonicus or Brachymyrmex obscurior. It could be Nylanderia, but I believe they fly much earlier in the year.
