This was in my backyard on a pavement stone path between my house and shed. I walked over it once and noticed it on the way back a minute later. Best guess on the ID was based on the best pic 🤘👍 and bit of research. I think Crystals discription was the closest..

The weird thing was that because of the size diff, I thought were 2 different colanys swarming. Looking back at the vid, it seemed at one point near the end there were 3 different sizes of winged ant.

I collected 2ea at the swarm knowing I was just collecting for ID. Right after this vid, I went to sit on the deck and check out my collection. I sat down and saw a familiar 🐜 on the underside of the table. Since I could see through it, it was an easy catch. At that point I noticed that the wings were gone, so I was happy. This was about 25' from where I collected my first Queen inside on the kitchen cabinet about the same time of day and weather conditions on May 9th.

The queens are a solid light brown and smooth with a gold shimmer. The males are either dark brown or black but it's hard to tell under 10x and good light. That 3rd one is probable my imagination. The rest of the workers were dark too. I didn't notice any other sizes..

Very cool! I've actually never personally witnessed this for Lasius species.
