I found this ant on my porch! It is my first queen so I am very happy! I just can't seem to get a good pic of it. Idk why the pictures are upside down, but here they are. I think it may be Lasius Niger, but it looks more black than pictures online.

The pictures need some work and measurements are crucial, although I'd say this looks a little bit like Aphaenogaster.

We need more pictures, but it could be Tetramorium.

I took those pictures with my camcorder. 2 are in 4k resolution. That is the best I could get!

Your queen is Crematogaster sp.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

The cold temperate species are beginning their flights just about now. The length, round head, and post-petiole positioned high on the gaster are giveaways.

She should be raised just like any other semi-claustral queen - leave them alone till workers, then start feeding them like a normal colony.

I think you mean fully-claustral.

Lets clear some stuff up here. Those pictures are still not really good enough to get an ID. What we can say pretty definitively is that your queen is fully-claustral. She will need nothing from you other than peace for about a month for her first workers to come. Just make sure there is water in her tube and no mold growing.
