So I caught 8 Lasius queens a week ago and most of them have now layed eggs. I am keeping them in a warm dark place and I plan to check them only once a week. About how long will it take for the eggs to turn into larvae and how long does it take for eggs to turn into nanatics for the Lasius genus in prime conditions? Thank you for any help.

What type of Lasius are they? There is a cars sheet for L. neoniger on this board. I found several Lasius so the neoniger or similar type this weekend. 1 died, no eggs in the others yet. Just set them down for a 1 week "rest" in the dark

I don't know what species of Lasius they are. I heard it is a pain in the butt to identify them.

Do your Lasius sp. look sort of like what you see in this image?

Queen type 3

Apparently there are at least 4 species that look very similar.  It is my understanding that in our area this would most likely be L. alienus or L. neoniger.  I do not believe that L. niger or L. pallitarsis (the other two species that apparently look alike in the group) are present in Maryland or NJ, but I may be in error.

Yeah it looks like that. Considering that they had their flights this early means that they are proably Lasius alienus. Thanks. Lasius neoniger flies around Labour Day which is too early for them.
