I am looking to set up a terrarium/formicarium in a 20 gallon long tank.

I need a Queen I can keep in a test tube setup for a while, then introduce the colony to the tank later. 

 

I live in Connecticut. I have been out several times looking for queens, but I have come up empty. 

Looking for Formica or Tetramorium honesty. No real interest in carpenters or Winter ants.

I have to say that Tetramorium are fast developers so you wouldn't be able to keep them in a test tube set up. Considering it's a little to late for them. I would suggest gaining some experience with typical pro ant keeping before trying the natural setup (The 20 gallon tank).

Try looking for queens the day after a big rainstorm/thunderstorm. That will give you more luck.

Tetramorium are fine in test tubes, I currently have 3 different queens in a test tube setup. They are very small so if you have 18mm like I do they can probably live in a test tube for maybe through the second year then move into the 20 gallon! Good luck!

They've finished flying to my knowledge down here in PA. I'd recommend looking for other species, you'll have more success with that.
