1.) On forested side of house, crawling on the side of a propane storage tank

 

2.) 8/13/17

 

3.) Lightly forested residential area

 

4.) ~ 7mm

 

5.) Black gaster w/ hairy and shiny texture; dark red-burnt orangish thorax/head segment/legs

 

6.) One petiole with very narrow waist, sharp spine pointed toward thorax, small eyes, and smaller sized head relative to body size

Will need some better pictures but it seems to represent a Formica pallidefulva queen.

Thanks Bracchymyrmex! Yeah sorry about the picture quality, still working on taking better photos and probably investing in a macro lens soon  :)

I was also leaning towards Formica.
