Hello,

Here is a photo guide with a video demonstrating the process of embedding images from imgur to Formiculture. Please note, this doesn't work with Photobucket anymore so imgur is probably the way to go.

STEP ONE: Figure out where you want to post the photo.

You don't necessarily have to edit a previous thread to post a photo, I just had a picture I forgot to publish with my addition to the Photography Thread. It works the same way with brand-new threads, too.

28JJOrp.png

STEP TWO: Click 'edit' to add photos to an existing post.

Like I said, you can skip this step if you're publishing a new thread.

2mwl6s2.png

STEP THREE: Decide where you want the photo to go.

Self-explanatory, I don't expect most of you to get stuck on this part.

FN5sz0c.png

STEP FOUR: Upload the photo to imgur.

There are a few ways to do this. You can pick the photo right out from your drive using the 'browse' function, or simply drag & drop it, which is what I usually do.

XFl78WF.png

ag4yNNl.png

STEP FIVE: Copy the photo.

Once the photo as shown up in your feed, you can select it.

jVRWTwk.png

Once selected, six different links will be available for you to choose in order to share it. In this case, we want to choose the link titled 'Direct Link'.

7JEqMRy.png

There are several ways to copy a photo; you can click the 'copy' button beside the link (which doesn't usually work for me), you can right click the selected link and choose 'copy' from the dropdown menu, or you can press command+C (shortest and easiest in my opinion).

7XQikzQ.png

ntRCaFp.png

STEP SIX: Embed the photo into your post.

To embed the image, you need to click the little square button in-between the break hyperlink and arrow buttons. It looks like a little picture; it's hard to miss.

GiGpi4C.png

Once you've clicked the square button, paste your link into the pop-up window. Once again, there are several ways to paste text; I'd recommend right-clicking the photo and using the dropdown menu, or using command+V.

tQhaK7R.png

Once you've pasted it, you can click 'OK' and the photo should pop up right where you wanted it.

Remember to save your changes if you're editing a post (click 'publish' if you're making a new one):

I do hope this helps eliminate confusion regarding posting embedded photos on this forum.

VIDEO: How to embed photos on Formiculture.com:

It's funny because I cannot see any of the photos when posted this way. Only can see when embedded directly to formiculture via the gallery.

That seems like a hassle anyway, uploading to the gallery is easy enough.

The Google Docs Method (for complete and utter newbies to the internet):

Video Tutorial:

Steps:

1) Head over to docs.google.com

2) Sign in via your email

3) Click "+" under "Start a new document"

LMRTHCv7ZSUHXS68ARn0-xfMKAJmza6pKO9yvFto

(Or you can use This Document I have created for the purpose of hosting images, FYI, you will still have to sign into your email account to edit it)

4) Once you have created and opened your document, copy and paste your image(s) into it

5) Resize or crop the image(s) to your liking and copy them again directly from the document (This way, Google will serve as a host for your photos)

6) Head over here to FC and paste the image(s) into your post

The advantage to this method is you don't have to sign up for Imgur or any other photo hosting websites, all you need is a google/email account; which you would have already as you need one to sign up to this forum!

Hope this helps! (Double posted this on this thread as well)

Thanks for this! I did not want to sign up for any pic hosting sites, so this really helps! Easy too. Now I just need to take some pics for my journal and shopjqZp7l_iqx6GsRJxXNfJ74XZNMDj5ivzRHukZdzQ

Anyone know why my picture quality decreases when I post one? It looks great on my phone but in the post it looks horrible.

I noticed it happening when I uploaded to imgur so I decided try out the gallery instead. The same thing happened.

I have updated a few things, and now allow attaching of image files. When attached they will now show up like any other images posted. This should make it a lot easier to post images from a cell phone. The only draw back to attaching images vs. embedding them, is you can't put them where you want them; they will always appear at the bottom of your post.

Also, using the option of simply posting the image URL is no longer considered a last resort, but it is still recommended that you use bbcode, or the buttons provided in the editor.

Images randomly rotating when uploaded. Why?
If I take the exact same file and do nothing but open it in Photoshop and save it and close it, then upload that instead it will view correctly oriented. Frustratingly random.

Can't upload small video files in any format. Why not?

I am too Aspie for this [censored], I just like things that work.

I believe there are different ways of encoding the orientation, and it varies by device/OS and photo format and a bunch of stuff I really don't understand.

I've run into the same problem and I suspect it's because the encoding is done in one way, but isn't checked by the forum display software, which is probably checking something else instead. When you save it with Photoshop it's probably saving the orientation data in an additional format that the forum software does check.

About 40% of the photos I upload to the gallery get flipped upside down. It’s easy to flip them back, but tedious. I’ve wondered why myself.

I upload the pictures i've taken to google docs, then I shrink them there and capy+paste them into a post.

I got adding images to posts no problem.

What i can't figure out is how do you control the image display size in a post?

616-Y1VWqZL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

the image tool has no GUI grab and resize power.

And when i try to use the code tool it comes out like this:

<img src="https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/616-Y1VWqZL._AC_SL1500_.jpg" width="200" height="300" />

showing the code instead of parsing.

thanks for any help,

FFY

The "code" BBCode is for posting code, or fixed-width text.

There is no way to change the size of your images unless your account has html permissions in which then you can write html code in your post. There are only a few people on the forum with those permissions. The smaller pictures in my posts are just smaller pictures.
