Location:  Skyline Drive, Cleveland National Forest, Corona, California.
Habitat:  Chaparral/very few oak and pine trees. Queen was found under a small rock.
Coloration, hue and pattern:  Black or very dark brown head, gaster and legs, very dark redish brown thorax and mandibles. Very rear portion of the thorax on the queen dark red.
Length:  5mm (worker), 12mm (queen).

I'm not complete sure that these workers are the same species as the queen, I am just assuming they are because they look very much alike, and I found them in the same spot.

Possibly Camponotus clarithorax or C. anthrax according to James C. Trager.

After keying this out, I confirmed it is Camponotus anthrax.
