Been hunting nearly every day all of this July for Formica queens here in South Carolina, tried morning, evening and night.
Anyone have suggestions for hunting down Formica queens?

Keep looking is really all you can do. I have always found mine in the morning. Never any other time.

I have found some under large, flat rocks as well as in a pool. Try checking those areas.

I caught most of mine around 9-Noon.

Yeah, I would assume they had a little later flight or the queen was just being picky on where to dig it's founding chamber.

I am pretty sure my q is Formica still need to better identify. I got her around 8:30 pm under a light on the apartment building and consistently every night in the same place.

About a month ago, I found a single Formica fusca queen at around 5 PM (i think she was still looking for a nest). Formica queens move very fast so I almost didn't catch her. She went from one side of the sidewalk to the other by the time I pull the test tube out of my pocket. Luckily she got stuck in the grass and when I put the test tube over her, she thought that the grass was moving because of something in, so she turned around and ran right into the tube. Only found the one queen though.
Edit: I think she is Formica fusca, but I could be wrong.

I've been looking all over the place too, not finding any!
Then my brother found two in the house!!! and one going into the garage. I never thought to look in those places
It seems like they can be found anywhere, so keep your eyes open always looking for them. Good luck!
