I guess this could go under the topic of 'General ant keeping'

 

I'm in need of a magnifying glass to help identify and view my little gals. What strength do you use or recommend? I see 2x, 4x and stronger. I'm a quality guy, but when it comes to magnifying glass' is that something that can affect them or is the Dollar Store okay?

Personally, I would say if your looking for magnify glasses that can see detail you should get the strongest one on Amazon or whatever up to your budget. The main difference between the dollar store ones and the nice ones is that the nice ones are mor scratch durable and don't tend to get all foggy while the cheap ones crack, get dirty/mucky/foggy, and develop scratches from just handling them. Making them irritating and a nuisance really. I would go for some nice strong ones that can be found on Amazon. Depending on the species I would say 4x is a pretty good bet to see the little details but if they are really small like Tapinoma I would proably recommend a little stronger lense. Great thanks. I went with one with an led light and changeable lenses. One is big and 3x and the other lens is smaller and 5 times. Great detail on both but 5x is excellent. Can see hairs and everything. I'm happy with it.
