I think there's a species of nearctic army ant in Florida that exhibits the trailing behavior. I forget the species.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. . .
Odontomachus 8)
Also I want to make sure my ants have enough protein so instead of insects could I use meat or seeds?
Trachymyrmex, Odontomachus, Cyphomyrmex, Pseudomyrmex, POGONOMYRMEX BADIUS! Some cool Pheidole, Strumigenys, Nylanderia, Monomorium, Forelius, Dorymyrmex, Aphaenogaster, Camponotus, etc. Just some of the coolest genera in the world. Personally, I think Arizona beats all states in the US ant-wise.
Also, Tapinoma melanocephalum, which I think are pretty cool.
