While I was camping the beginning of this month, I got a few videos of some of the ant colonies that were in the area. It was in Allegan Michigan, and right in between two ponds. There was maybe four feet distance between the two ponds of walkable land.
Ant species #1 had what appeared to be a very large mound. There were several different holes several inches apart, but all on this mound. The ants were pretty large, probably the size of the larger Camponotus pennsylvanicus that can be seen wondering around outside.
Ant species #2 was several feet away from the above ants, but in the same general location. This being in between the two ponds and in sand. They were small ants, and had the regular ant hill structures. I don't remember them being hostile or having large jaws at all.
I would have come back with some pictures, but they were all frantically running around and I couldn't keep up. Figured that, if anything, these could be relaxing videos
