1. Location (on a map) of collection: Ambler, Pennsylvania.
2. Date of collection: July the 9th, 2017
3. Habitat of collection: Paved sidewalk, caught in the small town of Ambler, PA. Ambler is a suburb of greater Philly, but the town is fairly urban.
4. Length (from head to gaster): ~ 8.5-9 millimeters
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Matte dark/black brown, with lighter yellow legs and a yellowish underside of gaster.
6. Distinguishing characteristics: One petiole node
7. Distinguishing behavior: Nothing unusual for a queen ant; she removed her first wing while still in the collection container.
8. Nest description: NA

 

I'm almost certain this is Lasius alienus, just because the time of year, but some clarification would be nice! I tried to get some photos of her mandibles, but my camera just wasn't strong enough.

As you know, we'll need to see close up shots of the scapes and mandibles. Time of year means it's probably Lasius alienus.

I agree. I'll stick her under the microscope when I get home and take some shots of her antennae and mandibles.
