1. Location (on a map) of collection: Ambler, Pennsylvania.
2. Date of collection: July the 9th, 2017
3. Habitat of collection: Paved sidewalk, caught in the small town of Ambler, PA. Ambler is a suburb of greater Philly, but the town is fairly urban.
4. Length (from head to gaster): ~ 8.5-9 millimeters
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Matte dark/black brown, with lighter yellow legs and a yellowish underside of gaster.
6. Distinguishing characteristics: One petiole node
7. Distinguishing behavior: Nothing unusual for a queen ant; she removed her first wing while still in the collection container.
8. Nest description: NA
I'm almost certain this is Lasius alienus, just because the time of year, but some clarification would be nice! I tried to get some photos of her mandibles, but my camera just wasn't strong enough.
