1. Location: Palm Springs, CA (recovered in swimming pool)
2. Today's date: 6/12/17 (caught on 6/10/17)
 
Body:
1. Location of collection: swimming pool in a concrete patio in a hot, dry desert community

2. Date of collection: 6/10/17
3. Habitat of collection (ie: desert scrub, oak forest, riparian, etc.).
4. Length: 7 mm
5. She clings well to the side on a plastic container, has no difficulty walking on walls (haven't seen her walk upside-down yet)

This looks like a Crematogaster species to me!

Solenopsis. Probably S. invicta, which is recorded in that part of CA.

How certain are you that it is a Solenopsis sp.?

I agree with LordOfAnts. This does resemble Solenopsis. Crematogaster, on the other hand, look like this:

The heart-shaped gaster is pretty appear-ant. ;)

I agree, having looked up S. Invicta, I agree. I also caught a bunch of S. Xyloni and they are similar. Thanks for the ID, she just started laying eggs. I was gonna give her to my little cousin, but maybe one of my velvet tree any species would be a better choice.
