Its been a dream of mine to keep ants since I was a boy playing Sim Ant on the SNES. I've always been drawn to them. I first ran into Tetramorium as a genus about 12 years ago in my then back yard, and I was amazed by these little tanks in ant bodies. I finally have my queen, documented in the ID thread, and now its time to begin my long awaited journey. To note I have been in the Tarantula hobby and I also have a ball python so this isn't my first go round keeping herps and inverts, but it is my first time with ants.
June 15th, 2017-Capture:
I had this day circled on my calendar all week as weather was favorable.Mid 90s, humid after several days of massive thunderstorms, and wind was 7mph tops.
Came home from work early due to dental issues, but had a look around. I became anxious when after several minutes of searching I saw several red and black camponotus workers carrying dead alates in their mandables and I knew a flight had occured.
20 minutes later I found my queen. She didn't want to come quietly but I used an index card to get her into my pill vial. I could barely contain my excitement as I came home. She is now in a test tube set up tucked away nicely in my supplement cabnet, and we'll see what happens. Cannot wait to share this journey with you all.
