1. Location of collection: Just south of St. Louis
2. Date of collection: 6/14/17
3. Habitat of collection: Inside a building near a door. The surrounding area consists of open, grass covered fields and a small stream with some trees around it.
4. Length (from head to gaster): 10-10.5 mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Bright reddish orange color
6. Distinguishing characteristics: One petiole, slightly hairy gaster
7. Distinguishing behavior: It was dying when I caught it
8. Nest description: No idea
The size makes me think it's some species of Camponotus. Perhaps C. castaneus? I've never seen them in my area, but the coloring looks right.
