1. Bergen County, NJ
2. Collected at ~11 AM 8/14/2017
3. Walking slowly underneath a tree on root covered soil with sparse grass/weeds. Tree itself in a grassy playground area, with asphalt nearby, as well as a larger grassy area and small wooded area.
4. Length of 7.5mm
5. Coloration appears to be dark brown (chestnut perhaps) to black. I have difficulty telling the exactly color. There are some apparent lighter patches as in the photographs.
6. From certain overhead views, you may not recognize it as a queen, because it has a relatively narrow thorax. Lateral view makes it clear that the thorax is enlarged for wing muscles.
7. No odor, appears to be pensive in its movements. Slow and careful.
8 no nest, found out in open.
I can't even venture a guess here as to what this one is with any confidence. If I had to guess....Lasius alienus
