I was browsing the World of Mycremology Forum ( http://world-of-myrm....freeforums.net) and found this video. Do you think it would work well for founding semi claustral, colonies?

Worth giving it a shot, though styrofoam seems a bit sketchy, I'd look into other materials.

This has been posted before, seems like a decent idea for some smaller species. I don't have enough room in my test tubes to do that with Camponotus.

Hit "Like This" if it helped.

This is actually Expanded Polystyrene foam - Styrofoam™ is in fact a brand and most commonly found in construction applications.

I've seen this video before. After I saw it, I went to work trying this out and put a newly caught Solenopsis invicta queen in it. It got to the worker stage and had around 40 workers before I got rid of them. I don't think styrofoam is poisonous for ants, but I'm not sure. Keeping big ants like Camponotus may not be good for this as they may eventually chew through it, but what do I know, maybe they can't. It worked well for me.
