Stick them in a dirt box and see what happens.

But fusca (or whatever else this species may be) likes to live in wood it seems.

Update: 12/10/2015 

The first colony totally died out in the summer heat, and the dud queen's workers also died out, leaving just the dud queen going into hibernation this winter. :(
