Does anyone know what time of year and what time of day Veromessor Andrei flies, and when I'd the best time to look for them? Not too much on them on the forums.

Check this out: http://www.formicult...ngmating-chart/

It shows when people found species, including Veromessor, over the months. It seems you should be looking Feb - July. Good luck!

I found them for the first time in Southern California last year. They are more common up north. Northern variety are all black, Southern variety has black and red.

Ok, thanks! Also, is there a specific time of day and method that is best for finding queens. I mean like founding Chambers, blacklight, and night or day flights.

It depends on the species. But for V. andrei, late afternoon to sunset was when I found them. No chambers, they were all just walking around.

I find their colonies very often up here in the Bay Area, they absolutely love nesting on walking trails in state parks. I've never seen their alates, though.

Where do you find them? I only know of two places that they exist.

They live in the foothills. Most people find the queens wandering around in the evening after flying earlier that day.

I personally have seen them on Mt. Diablo, Mt. Tamalpais, Edgewood Park & Natural Preserve, Wunderlich County Park, and the Marin Headlands around the Bay Area. They were all found in the same environments, relatively dry and on walking paths that go over hills.
