Queen iD? Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Qc, Canada 05/25/2017

could it be Camponotus nearcticus?

It is likely either Camponotus nearcticus or Camponotus caryae. I can imagine C. nearcticus is more likely as C. caryae isn't common up North. If you want to distinguish them, check for hairs on the cheeks (gena). C. nearcticus has none, while C. caryae does.

So, try getting some better shots in full-face view (the front of the face.) to spot some hair.   :) Spotting a clypeal notch on top of that will confirm if it is these two.

Well according to Antwiki, C.nearcticus is only in Alberta, Canada not Qubec. (If I'm wrong feel free to correct me, I'm still a novice at ID'ing ants)

Antwiki doesn't show all of the distribution. antmaps is a better source even though it may be innacurate at times.

With the Blue covering it is hard to see the color and specifics, It is a queen, either C. Pennsylvanicus or C. Moduc would be my two guesses.

Much too small for either.

I cannot see any hairs on the cheeks, so it could be C.nearcticus then. As for the clypeal notch i really can't  tell til she keep moving a lot. Well thank you very much for your help guys.  :)

According to antmaps C. nearcticus can be find in Québec province. Happy to discover this new site (antmaps), thx again all!
