I found this alate in a huge swarm that was around and landing on my white back door at 6 AM this morning. There were tons of alates (mostly) and a few dealates of a few different species. I caught a few more, but did not go crazy. I am also posting the others on this forum. We have been in a drought for a couple of weeks, and a downpour rain happened last night. This area is surrounded by houses with small yards and a few trees. 

 

I caught one of this species. It has a black gaster and dark reddish head and mesosoma. She is 7mm long.

A slightly fatter alate Pheidole dentata.

There exists considerable color variation in this species. A dark, almost black colored form, and another with red and black bicolored majors and queens. There is color overlap and the two extremes differ slightly in their nesting behavior.

There's a few other species they can be mistaken with but higher magnification is needed effectively to tell them apart.
