I was wondering if anyone could give me a guess on what red ants would make a ant hill in the meadows of Michigan. I run across these in open fields and they measure about 2 ft. across and 18 inches high. I don't think they're Camponotus novaeboracensis as I've read up on those and the habitat doesn't seem the same. I'd say these are a medium sized ant. As a kid, we used to take a stick and open the top up to see all the ants running around. I remember they have a good bite to them also!

Tha ant hills are that size? At first I thought you meant the ants! Haha
