Probably going to be the first thread of many, but I believe we are permitted to ship and receive queens and colonies of Pogonomyrmex occidentalis across state lines. So, If anyone has any extra queens or colonies, I’m interested. Might be understandable to wait a few days or something.

I think antkeeping might really explode as a hobby now, if this species can just be bought like any other pet. And these are the classic "ant farm" ants, right, so there's already an industry of sorts setup around them.

Tell us how it goes! Was it reasonably priced?

I didn't think the mini hearth was free with it? Then again, I already have one so I didn't pay attention to that.

It will be in my journal. I don't think its reasonably priced, but some other people might. That's just my opinion.

It comes in a genesis test tube if you don’t get a mini hearth.

Not to be a downer, but I hope the native populations can sustain the demand of an entire nation ordering Pogonomyrmex queens.

They most likely can. There are so many colonies, which produce so many alates, they should be fine.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Tarheelants is taking brood from colonies that will be killed by an apartment complex being built.

I bought a "advanced colony" off of tarheelants.

I've been considering that, it just seems a bit expensive. Let me know if it's worth it.
