Just joined today after the sad loss of another large ant forum which was the biggest in the UK. I got into ant keeping by visiting this site http://anthillwood.com and have had a keen interest in ants and other insects for many years now. As you may already have gathered I live in England, so I hope to find topics of interest here.

Ant Hill World always had a really strange and cultish following.  I remember joining a while back, only to learn that 90% of the forum was inaccessible until I published the required number of posts.  No thanks!

 

It is a shame that all those member contributions were lost into the ether of a paid forum service, however. Complete lack of leadership.

I have literally no idea what just happened, but I think you need to step back and calm down rufaman. No one said anything about your wife, no one attacked you or anyone specific, and drtrmiller was just stating a fact about a forum he visited.

Jen ran the forum as the admin for ten years, and it had over 2000 members, so to say it lacked a good leader shows no respect for admins. I hope if you guys ever have to fight for your country you show more respect for good leaders?

My account, my forum, an admin can take a forum down anytime they like. If you think the forum is crap, why are you snooping around it (this AM uk time) but not contributing. Your account is deleted.

So the readers clearly understand, I never made a single post to your forum, and the entire extent of our interaction has been limited to the two posts I made in this thread, above. As such, your reply only reinforces my earlier point.

As to your comment: bullies use their advantage in size, influence, or control to dominate others. I have full confidence that the readers will be able to ascertain who the real bully is, given your boastful admission of using your pulpit of power to "make a point" and shame an established and reputable member of the antkeeping community, all for the high crime of casually dissenting here to the way your forum was managed.

 

The fact that you would patrol outside forums to quash dissenters is further proof of hubristic lunacy.  You may want to Google "megalomania," as I feel you may be a model case study for science.

Taken together with allegations that AHW forum leadership or members participated in an illegal libel campaign, purportedly sending out mass forum emails accusing another member of being a child molester; the inviting, affable staff and novel-length list of "Rules and Regulations," which includes, but is not limited to a prohibition on "mentioning 'competing' ant forums by name," were more than enough factors to give pause to any potential "contributions" I may have wanted to make to your exercise in fascism disguised as an ant forum.

And let's not forget, the captain at the helm of the ship might wake up one day and decide to steer head-first into an iceberg (again), deleting those hypothetical contributions into oblivion. Notwithstanding whatever ridiculous vendetta you have against "sarcasm," how could anyone trust an admin who single-handedly deletes 10+ years of member contributions on a whim, not once, but twice in the span of just one year?

This marks not one, but two ant forums from which I've been banned before making a single post (the other being the short-lived THA forum). I'll wear these as badges of honor—a testament to the deranged, partisan idiocy that continues to plague this community, holding it back from being the bastion of civil discourse—which includes the right to scathing dissent where warranted—that it should be.
