Possible ant queen Lake County 5/1/17

1. Location of collection: Collected on my black light trap in a grassland. No treecover for quite a distance.

2. Date of collection: 5/1/2017
3. Habitat of collection: California grassland
4. Length: ~mm, insect made measurement difficult. 
5. Coloration: Ant is solid black with glassy wings. Each wing has a small opaque dot on the exterior.
6. Distinguishing characteristics: two small extrusions where the gaster sting would be, abdomen comes to a point.

Looks like a drone of some sort. Notice the tiny head in comparison to the thorax. Definitely an ant, maybe Camponotus. Not a queen however.

That means the mating flights are tonight correct? I should go out anting tomorrow then! Thanks for the quick help!

We will be able to get you a proper ID with some better quality pictures and measurements (as difficult as they may be to get). However, it looks similar to Camponotus species' male drones.
