Nobody on this forum was born without a subconscious interest of ants. Getting into the hobby is a different thing.

What species are you guys keeping? I guess you can say I'm new to keeping proper formicariums. I've always been interested since I was a kid and my Ant Farm© was awesome. I started thinking how awesome it was and looked into getting another one but not have it die in 30 days so I found out about formicariums. The rest is history...

 

I came home last night and found my trash innundated with ants again. Then I saw a fat queen scurrying away so I got excited and caught it with a few workers! Perfect timing! Then I find out Argentine ants aren't very interesting and an invasive species. Oh well. It's a start I guess?

i have many argentine ant queens. they are feeder colonies for me.

Definately a good start.  Invasive species are often hardy and good choices for a first time ant keeper who is trying to provide the best for his/her ants.  What does an any hobbyist need more than an actual queen and colony?  :D

Thanks for the info and welcoming me! I'm looking at a THA setup for some Pogonomyrmex but right now the Argentines are in a cup-atarium, which I thought was pretty ingenious if someone hasn't already tried it. I'll post a pic in the Pictures thread if they do well in it.

Nice! I would like argentine ants, but Nylanderia keep them out of Simi Valley. Guess I shouldn't be complaining, Nylanderia are at least friendlier with the native species. :)

I know for a fact the leafcutters are high maintenance, which I should stay away from right now. Not sure about the honeypots or trapjaws. 

 

If I'm able to I will try and find some this upcoming year and hopefully be able to start some journals on them for you Cali folk.
