The first two, I am possibly closing in on nests I can get.

i have a quite few goals that i have set for 2016: excavating monomorium nests for study and rearing as well as black lighting since i now have the equipment to do so. and since i have charted out the flights of 2015 in a calendar, i can predict and plan for nuptial flight before they even occur. i will also be perfecting my macro photography / free-hand drawing skills. i am going to compile the video portion of my work into  short documentary with the aid of a local bee keeper / ecologist.

Actually there is an old record of Odontomachus from the San Bernardino area. My dad and I were never fully convinced  of its accuracy though.

If O. clarus has spread to Arizona, is it that improbable for them to be in SoCal as well?

I'm not sure what you mean by spread to Arizona as the species is well documented there as native. That said, it is not impossible that the California specimen is part of a relict population left over from an earlier time. Equally possible and somewhat more likely is that the thing is just mislabeled. As secretive as the species is though it could easily escape detection. It is, even in Az one of those right place right time species. As far as finding it goes, I suspect a good bit of the area is now in private hands and inaccessible. We always thought though there was plenty of habitat up along I 15 which could be suitable after summer rains.

Raise another colony of Odontomachus or Oecophylla. Preferably more successful this time.
