Hello everyone! I haven't kept ants since I was a kid with a department store ant farm, but I am revisiting the hobby now, 20 some years later.  It all started with some YouTube videos a few months ago and now I'm hooked and my 10 year old son has also became very interested in it. Anything that can get him to spend more time away from video games is a great thing. So we are going to do as much research as possible, and hopefully get a colony or two started sometime this summer.

thanks for having me!

Hello fellow Hoosier, thanks for the welcome! I am in Delaware County Indiana and am looking forward to queen catching season. I'll be sure to let you know if I ever have more queens than I can handle and please do the same for me. Perhaps we can do some trading or selling in the future!

Thanks again

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I would definitely be up for doing that! It's no fair for the California kids to have all the ant-trading fun.

I'm currently looking into employing both the black light and swimming pool methods of catching queens and will use them in addition to walking around. My boy has a birthday coming up in the beginning of August and he has already said that he wants a queen and ant stuff for his presents. This is the first time in a few years that he hasn't asked for electronics or a video game so I'm really determined to not let him down. Even if that means buying a queen so he will have one in time for his birthday.
