Hello all,

I've created a little quiz for all you ant enthusiasts out there who want to put your knowledge to the test. Some of you may find this very easy, and others may find it quite difficult; there's no shame in doing poorly so don't worry about it. In the "name" section, please put your current formiculture.com username.

You can use the internet if you want; the test was obviously made to be taken without the help of an outside source, but no one's going to call you out for cheating. You should try to do it yourself, just to make it more fun, but it's up to you.

Also, you should note that "Fill-in-the-blank" and "Select All" style questions are ALL worth 2 points. This number has does NOT correspond to the number of correct answers, or anything of the sort. When you're finished, feel free to comment and provide any feedback, questions or concerns you have about the test. This is all VERY preliminary and unfurnished, so don't expect it to be perfect. All I ask is you put your real formiculture username.

Here's the link:

Good Luck.

100 percent... I got 1 or 2 spelling errors so technically I didn't get 100 but the answers on them were right.

I felt like this was really easy actually. Don't know if that's just me.

I am very confused with the question requiring you to identify a species of flamingo.

Apparently is is not Phoenicoparrus jamesi despite the name being in the picture description. Â¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah you can factor out spelling errors, nice job. I knew you would be the one to think it was easy  :P .

What the heck are fermones? Fermented morons?

We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.

Thank you all for taking part in my quiz! It has proven to be somewhat of a success!

If you have any input you'd like to share, or would like to help me develop questions and themes for future exams, please sent me a personal message so we can get something started. I think these quizzes are really fun and it would be neat to keep tests running maybe once a week or once a month.

So far, 18 exams have been taken and the average score is 61%! As of now, the leader is the mysterious "ShmickleBob" with 100%. Nice job Shmick, and good luck to the rest of you!

I'm still deciding whether or not I should publish a "leaderboard"; I want it to be more fun than competitive, and I don't want to provide incentive to cheat. I'll update you all soon. Thanks!

Your score: 42% (11 points out of 26)

 to be fair, we don't have like 70% of the species listed in those questions, so I never bothered to learn about them [Pogomyrmex, Solonopsis etc.]

Hm. This "Shmicklebob" seems like quite the sketch ball.

I must say that some of the spelling errors (like fermones) really shook me off. If you do another quiz please make sure that all the names are actually correct.

Thanks, Serafine.

When I said to leave any comments or concerns, I specifically meant in regard to content flaws or factual inaccuracies; I fixed the spelling mistake within an hour of your post notifying me, so this shouldn't have been such a significant concern to most people who took the test after your post (which was roughly 90% of takers). Yes, "pheromones" as "feromones" was an amateur mistake, but it's not like you couldn't make out the word.

Thank you, however for notifying me quickly. If I decide to do this again, I'll keep an eye out for spelling errors and will proofread it several more times.

If you have a remote knowledge of chemistry it isn't that obvious. There's a ton of weird (and often confusing) trivial names for substances of all kinds and I wouldn't have been surprised if fermones actually existed.

Okay, so if you weren't referring to the context of anting & myrmecology, I see how this could have been confusing and you may have interpreted it as a trick question or something. I apologize for those of you who took the quiz an got tripped up by this question; it has been fixed.

Thank you, and sorry for the misunderstanding.
