Hello everyone!

My name is Max, and like the title says I live on the California central coast in a small town called Morro Bay. I've been lurking around on this board for a while now, and after much internal debate it seems I can't be a bystander any longer.
Hopefully I'll contribute something of at least some worth.

Anyway, I'm fairly new to ant keeping. I have yet to successfully capture anything, let alone 'keep' it, but I've found myself being continually astonished by the diversity of these little creatures. Their unique character, the many ways they adapt to seemingly any challenge, and then despite their size, overcome it.
In fact, the discovery of myrmecology as a area of study has given me the impetus to continue my education with a degree in entomology being the goal.
(This, if anybody here knew me, would be almost as impressive as the ants themselves... 'Nuff said.)

But,I digress. At the very least, I'd like everyone here to know that it's a pleasure to finally have a chance to converse with like-minded individuals. And to know that it isn't weird to crawl around your neighborhood on your hands and knees, with your face pressed into the dirt.

....At least it isn't weird here.

Happy Anting everyone! Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Max! Let's be honest, people think ant keeping is strange, they just don't understand it, and even when half the world plays pokemon go, they still would think catching queens is as weird as it can get, especially when you are staring at dirt for hours like some sort of sleep walker. This is why I have a fight club rule: never talk about ant keeping outside of this forum, what happens in ant keeping stays in ant keeping. Either way, I think no girlfriend or wife would understand. Welcome again!

Welcome!

I've fished out of Morro Bay Landing before, small harbor but nice people.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. 😃
It's surprising how difficult it can be to put yourself out here.

Hey Jelly! Quaint little town, isn't it?
If you ever find yourself in the area again, let me know. 😃

Hey Tagassi! Weirdly enough, I may have converted my girlfriend. Don't get me wrong, she's certainly not as into it as I am, but she's expressed interest in beekeeping! And I've got no problems with that.
Still, I don't think I'm the only one to experience that confused, day-dreamy expression when people ask what you did last weekend. 😑

Man, high five to you for converting your girlfriend to like any insects in general. Yeah, I get that day-dreamy moment too. Either way, a queen hunting is a good hike, much better than staying at home. Feel free to come down to hang out with us in chat!

Folks look at me weird when I talk ants at work, but I keep doing it anyway. They tolerate my subject matter while I like to at least pretend they care. :)

Welcome home!
