Up in Freedom, NH (Where I am right now until Monday) it reached 69-70 F as a high however couldn't see any ants probably becuase of the leftover snow, which is becoming especially slow to melt since all of it is coated with dirt and sand. I saw what might have been a small mound but not one ant in or around it.

Still snow in freedom, NH. However a little lake beach seemed to be snowless, so i checked it out. (hit a high of 78) There were Camponotus pensylvanicus foraging on a tree, and a couple Lasius cf. neoniger mounds in close proximity to each other. Ants are just waking up in Northern NH, at least where there's no snow.

Anybody's P.Imparis have eggs yet? Mine do not, but appear to have settled in nicely. Also if we got any Local folks in need of queens, and once I see how many get workers, would be willing to share my extras. I'm leaning toward having a polygynous colony of about 5 queens, that leaves three to spare if everything goes well.

I got my queens 4/11, checked 4/13 and there was nothing.

Yeah just checked mine after a week (got them monday) was disappointed but not suprised to see no eggs. I'm under the impression it may take a few weeks. Can't wait to see the pics of everyone's eggs and nanitics!

Don't get worried, from my understanding they are slow.

This one had to be a fluke... I didn't see anything flying, but there she was walking across a chair.  It looked like a Camponotus pennsylvanicus dealate for sure, so wonder if she was ejected from a colony?

Saw Lasius neoniger in great numbers working today in addition to parasitic Lasius.  Tetramorium were having quite the battle as well.  Camponotus of different types were foraging today.  I saw some Formica species as well (they were fast so didn't get a good pic), but were all red except for their gaster was black; very shiny.

Beautiful. Ants becoming active in Northern New Hampshire; Snow is clearing up there and in the last hour or two, found an active Formica fusca-group colony, Lasius cf. neoniger mound, and a Monomorium mound with workers active around it.

Posted an ID thread for the suspected Monomorium:

Believe it or not, didn't see a thing yet. Usually I see a few deer up here and the very occasional black bear, but nothing this time so far. I often have to go farther up North to find a moose.

I strangely figured out it felt a lot more rewarding to find the Monomorium colony rather than see a moose.

Ha, not far enough north; just saw your other thread about Freedom, NH.  Last time I went up north to Dixville Notch, saw 4 moose on the drive in.  Was pretty rewarding; still no black bears though...

I was on a relatives farm today that has been there for quite a long time (I think it's at least 100 years old in that side of the family, but not sure how much older), so large fields, and plenty of older growth forests of mixed types bordering the fields.  Being in NH I know I couldn't bring anything back, but really hoped I'd at least see P. imparis, but not a single one today  :(
