I don't want to make an actual post about this but, what's an "ant watch"?

Looks like Tetramorium flew today, finding males and dealate queens.

Tetramorium definitely flew today. I caught two dealate queens. There were dozens more but only had 2 tubes with me. Any idea what size vial they are most comfortable in?

It's a term for a thread in which people post when and where they find queens.

They are not very pick at all. I do 16-17mm tubes and they are absolutely fine in them. They grow fast, so better to go a bit bigger then small.

Yeah, as in watching for queens.

Did I miss all the Tetramorium flights? I unfortunately, didn't look this Friday when Tetramorium were flying. But, I looked today and yesterday and found nothing. This really surprised me because on both these days it was very humid and warm. I woke up and walked before 7am and found nothing. I also know for a fact there are Tetramorium in my area, they are very easy to identify and I have seen a lot of them. Please help.
I really want Tetramorium...

All help is appreciated.

They’re definitely not done flying in your area. Just keep looking. Try looking in pools if your neighborhhood fails. I even got some in a big kiddie pool on my patio!
Putting on a black-light at the crack of dawn could be effective, too.

Tetramorium has been flying here, 3 days in a row.  I found a bunch on Friday.  Found a few yesterday and a couple today, but wasn't really looking.

I think I saw evidence of Temnothorax flying as believe I found a male with a Tetramorium queen under the same brick.  I'll have to go out tonight and check.  They start out a big scattered in early flights, then have some large ones that can last for weeks.

My C. americanus colony might still be < 20 strong (16-18). It’s been like that for a year. I’ve seen (and posted) eggs & pupae but I’m seeing neither deaths nor a population increase. The eggs must be trophic but this is one monster larva. Likely an alate. I’d noticed one about a year ago but he was obviously cannibalized. The colony is about 3 years old. Is it common for a colony this small to start creating alates?

On another note, the queens I’d found are laying. The C. pennsylvanicus has some larvae and a pupae perhaps

Just eggs and larvae for the C. novaeboracensis. She might not have been fertilized as she doesn’t seem attentive to her brood. We’ll see...

Bit out of season to be a alate. It seems your colony is struggling a bit and I have no idea why.

Yeah, it beats me. I’m rotating protein sources, they’ve got got consistent humidity, and range between 75-80 degrees. I’ve been  flash freezing the mealworms so I don’t have anymore mites. I just don’t know...
