I think many  of us (including me) haven't bothered to record the Temp, Humidity, etc. making it next to useless.

I saw a really weird looking queen. It was kind of compact, with little ridges all over its body. It was red with a small black stripe on its abdomen. Does anyone have any idea what it was? I'm leaning towards mutated Tetramorium or something.

Tetramorium atratulum?

Maybe. She was bigger than a Tetramorium worker, though. Tetramorium atratulum queens are smaller.

Was it fuzzy? It sounds A LOT like a velvet ant. I would recommend against handling them too much. Theu are known for their painful sting. Their nick name is cow killer.

I am back home now, but I saw like 5 of those when I was in NH for the last week. They do sound a lot like what you are describing. The ones I've seen around here seem a lot less hairy then the ones on google.

The ridges in the description are the only reason I'm not absolutely certain.

She wasn't a velvet ant, despite the fact that they are common in my yard. I think that she actually might have been Myrmica, or maybe even a state record for Trachymyrmex.

I actually caught a Myrmica queen today! She has one wing and is very healthy.

I shall search for Trachymyrmex in my region now. (I'm feeling unnecessarily eloquent)

Also, I finally caught my Connecticut white whale (a myrmecophile!). It died, but still.
Can you guys guess what it is?

A Myrmecophila cricket? I see lots of those in Camponotus colonies.

Yep, it was a myrmecophile cricket. I'm probably going to search for more to live with my C. chromaiodes.

*just* found what I believe is a Solenopsis molesta female alate with a parasite in her gaster, found on a high place in my backyard. I'll be looking for a bit longer.
