Huge Temnothorax flight going on right *now* and finally saw males, and they are everywhere.  Hard to find females as so many males.

I tried to get a pic but the phone died... everywhere there's reflective surfaces I see males at a 20:1 ratio to females.  Picking them off clothes and skin.

I can't find any Temnothorax... I think I missed the flight...

Also, in about a month check for C. Americanus flights! I found some alate pupae!

Spent about an hour outside and didn't see anything tonight; only a lone termite alate. :(

Termite alate? Are they still flying? I need termites

This might be a bit late

Caught 13 in about 30mins... ran out of test tubes so had to double some of them up.  Males sometimes 15-20+ on the posts of our deck fighting for space.  Makes me wonder if the handful I caught a week ago were fertile as didn't see any males, yet there were males literally everywhere tonight.

I also realized I'm virtually out of cotton for test tubes as replacement from Amazon hasn't come in yet. Guess I'll be hitting up CVS at work tomorrow.    *Horrible* time to run out of cotton balls.

Ok tried to get a couple pics... but in the dark with a flashlight in one hand, doesn't come out to well.  Caught a few more before giving up for tonight.  Looks like the males in this species sit and wait for the females to show up.  Pretty much every tiny dark dot except for a few is a male Temnothorax:

EDIT:  Also saw them on any reflecting surface, including on our recycle bin.  However direct on lights and on white surfaces there were hundreds.

From my own personal experience, It seems as though you are super late. I told you that we only have one species of termite in CT that can only be harvested for an extremely short window of time.

I know but noeb1 saw one apparently. Maybe it was a dealate?
I also found a squished anergates queen.

I've seen all of 2 termite alates all season. I usually see maybe 2-5 a season.  Like a lot of other night fliers, they seem to be indirectly attracted to lights.  I've never find them on lights, but will go to a wall/window that's being illuminated.

Just poked my head outside for a minute and saw Temnothorax alates on the deck, so they are flying.  Not sure how large of a flight yet as still entertaining a toddler who's finally winding down.

So tonight is pretty much all male alates; only saw 3 or 4 female alate/dealates compared to yesterday.  I think there may be more males tonight than last night:

Hopefully that means there will be a large flight in MA within the next few days.  Still have not caught any live tetra queens this year.  Yesterday I found a nest with aliates very close to the entrance (4 or 5 of them were visible when I flipped the stone over) so it looks like there are still some flights to come in MA.

Had a large Tetramorium flight this morning. I seen many queens and several males stuck in the condensation on the roof of several cars.
