This happens with me all the time, but on carpeted surfaces :P

Same.....I feel you.....But, I drop workers, pupae and occasionally.....queens...Yeah..

Maybe I will discover the first one here!
They aren't anywhere close to the U.S. The United States still has many endemic genuses. Be happy with the ones we have :)
I love the ones we have! My personal favorite is C. Noveaboricensis.

Same.....I feel you.....But, I drop workers, pupae and occasionally.....queens...Yeah..

 

I once dropped Hawaii's smallest ant species on the ground (some sort of microscopic Cardiocondyla, the queen was barely bigger than a Solenopsis molesta worker!) with all of her brood. She tunneled away into the carpet, never to be seen again.

Haha I droppeda D. Tityus egg on the floor and it bounced into a dark corner and I never saw it again...

I dropped 2 Formica fusca pupae on a carpeted floor..

Ah, Formica's nothing. Try finding Solenopsis molesta pupae. Surprisingly, I find them.
