I caught these Monomorium ergatogyna queens in Southern California, March 17th 2013, while they were walking in a trail along with some of their workers.

At this point they have a good amount of brood developing.

Update 9-18-2013
This colony's population went up and kind of stayed about the same for some time. Recently, the queens have built up a pretty large pile of brood. Right now, in addition to that, there are around 28 workers too.

Update 12-10-2013
The smaller of the two queens died. I found her being carried away by five or so workers. The size of the colony hasn't changed much since the last update either.

Update 5-29-2014
This colony still has not produced anything more since the last update, and almost all the workers are now gone. I decided to let them go in the flower bed outside my door, and discontinue this journal.

Why are all these updates 2013, and why do you suppose the queen was not producing?

That last date was a mistake. I have no idea why she stopped laying eggs. Maybe the same unknown reason my S. xyloni stopped?
