Can anyone confirm the ID of these queens I caught this afternoon. I was thinking Lasius umbratus. Aprox 7mm. Almost black but not quite. Very dark dark brown.

I would say Lasius umbratus or Lasius speculiventris.  I am not sure how to tell those two apart.

I couldn't find any L. alienus, but I did find some (what I assume is) L. umbratus workers. (They could be L. murphyi too, I don't know.)

I found them in a burnt up log.

Soooo hopefully that works. Worth a try.

You never said what ended up happening to these. Did they die?

Oh yeah. Halfway through the process the workers decided to kill the queens. They're all dead.

That reminds me of the time when I had L. clavigers. I had a ton of L. clavigers...

Well that wasn't a very fun ending to the story.
