Hello! I am very new to the hobby of antkeeping and this is my first queen. I found her during a hike in Payson, Arizona on 3/8/2017. The area she was caught in is mostly dirt/rocky mountains, in a pine tree forest near a creek. I found her running across a dirt pathway next to a parking lot. When i encountered her, she was an alate, and looked to be running to find a place to hide/ start a nest. She kept trying to burrow under some tiny rocks or wedge herself into a dark spot. A few hours after the capture, she shed her wings. Her length is about 0.8 inches. She looks a bit big in the pictures, but that is because the test tubes I had were pretty small. Black head and thorax, and a half black half orange gaster. All 6 legs are also the same orange color. Her body looks to be fully claustral.

Looks like a Camponotus spp. to me. I'm not much help beyond that.

Current Colony:

4x Camponotus (hyatti?)

Camponotus sp. Looks similar to one of the red/black variants, chromaiodes, vicinus, etc.

She is also very thin. Feed her some sugar water.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I gave her a few tiny drops of sugar water a few hours ago but she doesn't seem too interested.
