i like my ants the way they are
Interesting article. Imagine if scientist would be able to control ants with odor and pheromones.

Agreed. I feel as if humans are changing things that they aren't supposed to change.i like my ants the way they are

These genetic changes are for research purposes only. I imagine this methodology will be what eventually reveals the ant's chemical language and social structure.
If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.
Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Black lives still matter.
I'm still waiting for someone to take the bioluminescent food idea and add the black light!

I'm personally completely against modifying organisms. The reason we have like a 75% loss of bees around the world is from companies like monsanto who are basically destroying the world by biologically altering crops to produce their own pesticides. No bees means the planet falls apart.
You can also make an organism fall apart and die from tampering. I don't think i want corporations in China tampering with everything (including indigenous North American crops). The reason they move to China or other countries is to avoid certain laws. Twisted things are going on out there guys.

I'm gonna ask you to back up there. CCD is partially due to the use of the commonly available insecticide known as neonicitinoids (along with several other contributing factors) and not the production of GMO crops. Genetic modification is doing exactly what human beings have been doing for thousands of years, which is selectively breeding both plants and animals in order to produce desirable traits. Just like any advancement in science and technology, we are slowly reducing the margin of error in which we reach our goals. Genetic modification has the capacity to do a lot of good (It can produce crop plants that need less water to survive, it can produce crop plants that use chemicals similar to those found in a multitude of common, naturally occurring plants all over the world in order to deter herbivorous insects, etc.). However, in the case of any new form of technology, it should be heavily regulated.
P.S. The world will find a way to recover, but we will not. Life on this planet has been through far worse. Is it immoral to kill off huge populations of european honey bees with no regard for the other organisms that are heavily dependent on them for their own survival? The answer in my opinion is "yes". However, let us not pretend that the extinction of Apis milifera will lead to the total destruction of the entire biosphere. The world will remove us in the same manner that a dog may scratch itself to remove fleas, and then continue just as before without us.
Honestly, the research that is being done here seems rather harmless. I recommend that you watch the video.
