Nice view of the "spines", or lack there of, which is one of the features of Pheidole barbata.

About 8mm, found ~3 inches down in very soft sand about 20ft off a dirt road


Sorry for bad lighting in the video, it started raining so I had to use a flashlight

Pheidole.

 

Most likely the same Pheidole species I found. I haven't seen any other Pheidole flying this time of the year. I think it might be P. barbata.
