Hobbyist. The PETA thing made me laugh, especially with how... extreme the real thing is.
Hobbyist.
Had an extra fish tank laying around, got the wild hair that raising something other than fish could be fun. Why not bees?! Well..the HOA put the kibosh on that rather quickly that I decided ants could be just as much fun. Since that mentality a year ago, I've learned WAY MORE THAN I'D ever expect to. I've really grown fond of peoples pictures. I like success stories. Major success stories are fantastic. It's been a totally different ride than what I was expecting.
"I'm the search bar! Type questions into me and I'll search within the forums for an answer!"
I am currently only a dedicated hobbyist (I have been keeping ants for five years), but hope to climb to the rank of professional entomologist / animal behaviorist / evolutionary biologist someday with proper education and training. I am currently writing a research paper which I hope to publish next year, so in a way, I am still contributing to scientific research. As for being part of "PETA" (pretty funny btw), I have found a love and fascination for ants to be quite contagious and have a great amount of respect for all invertebrates in general. I would love to someday aid in conservation. Not sure if this counts...
Intermediate hobbyist.

Hobbyist here.
I used to really hate ants because of the invasive species (there are a lot where I'm living) so I grabbed some old test tubes from my Science teacher in hopes of drowning them (sorry PETA), caught some fire ant workers, researched A LOT and the rest is history.
