Update: 10/3/2014

Some of the infertile queens have started to die now, I am down to 18 of these queens, three of which have workers, and a few are getting near.

As of now, the bejeweled one has had this worker for a few days. The worker does not seem to want to take off the dead Solenopsis xyloni from her leg!  :yahoo:

Here are some pictures of the bejeweled one with her first worker. :)

Tpro, let me get you started. I will make a new thread explaining how I do my anting in the desert, Drew and others who go to the desert can contribute. It is basically the same as anting anywhere else, but rain matters the most for a flight to start.

What?

Tpro4 asked how you planned to catch them.

It sounds like it took your Bejeweled worker about 2 weeks to go from pupae to eclosing? Is this about the time frame for more Pogonomyrmex? My californicus has a pile of larvae and at least a few pupae and I'm impatiently waiting for more workers!

Should be about a month and a half from egg to worker.

Yeah, the worker doesn't care about it as of now, so looks like it might stay on. :)

I wonder how that happened? Did the ant die of old age as it was attacking her (lol) or was it unable to remove itself and died of starvation?
